Ethereum is the only major on our board to reclaim its 50-day average (near $1,756), and it carries the firmest 30-day return of the group with momentum (RSI in the mid-60s) leaning positive. The honest caveat: it is still well below its 200-day (near $2,217) and more than 60% off its record, so this is a constructive read inside a longer downtrend, not an all-clear.
Ethereum's case rests on being the settlement layer for the largest share of on-chain activity — stablecoins, DeFi and tokenisation — with a fee mechanic that ties network usage to supply. We watch real usage rather than narratives, and it is holding up better than price alone would suggest.

À propos de Ethereum
Ethereum (ETH) is the largest programmable blockchain, and it takes a very different approach from Bitcoin. Rather than focusing only on being sound money, Ethereum works like a shared global computer: developers can upload small programs called smart contracts that run exactly as written, without anyone able to switch them off. The idea was proposed by Vitalik Buterin in 2013, and the network launched in 2015.
Those smart contracts are the building blocks for a huge amount of what happens in crypto today. Most stablecoins, decentralised finance applications, token projects and NFT collections were built on Ethereum or on networks modelled after it. The network’s own currency, ether, has two main jobs: users spend it as a fee, often called gas, to run transactions and contracts, and holders can lock it up, or stake it, to help keep the network secure and earn rewards in return.
Ethereum has changed significantly over time. In 2022 it completed an upgrade known as the Merge, swapping energy-hungry mining for the far more efficient proof-of-stake system. A portion of every transaction fee is also permanently destroyed, which means ether’s supply can actually shrink during busy periods. To handle more users, a family of faster, cheaper layer-2 networks now settles back onto Ethereum, borrowing its security while easing congestion on the main chain.
For a newcomer, the simplest way to picture ether is as both a commodity you might hold and a fuel you spend. Every time someone uses an Ethereum application they pay a small amount of ether, which is why network activity sits at the heart of its story and why fees climb during busy spells and ease when things quieten down. Understanding that relationship between usage and fees explains a lot about how the asset behaves.
Because ether’s value comes from how much the network is used rather than from a fixed supply cap, its long-term case rests on continued demand for on-chain activity. That demand faces real competition from rival blockchains, and a growing share of everyday activity now runs on layer-2s, which alters the way fees and value reach the base chain. Like all crypto, ether is volatile and carries genuine technical and market risk. This is background for your own research, not investment advice.

Ethereum FAQ
What is Ethereum?
It is a decentralised blockchain for running smart contracts, which are self-executing programs. Its currency, ether (ETH), settles transaction fees and, through staking, helps keep the network secure.
How is Ethereum different from Bitcoin?
Bitcoin was built mainly as scarce digital money with a firm cap. Ethereum is a general platform for applications, so ether’s worth tracks how heavily the network gets used rather than a supply limit.
What was the Merge?
It was the 2022 upgrade that moved Ethereum off mining and onto proof-of-stake. The change slashed the network’s energy footprint and opened up staking for ether holders.
What is gas?
Gas is the ether fee you pay to carry out a transaction or run a contract. Prices climb when the chain is congested and ease off when things are quiet.
Does ether have a supply limit?
There is no hard cap. Fresh ether rewards stakers while part of every fee is burned, so the overall supply can expand or contract depending on how busy the network is.
