Like several peers it uses optimistic rollup technology, but its wider ambition sets it apart: it forms the foundation of the Superchain, a vision in which many separate layer-2 chains are built from the same open standards so they can cooperate smoothly.
The OP token operates within Optimism’s governance system, which has an unusual and much-discussed feature: a strong emphasis on funding public goods across the Ethereum ecosystem.
