О проекте Uniswap
Uniswap is the best-known decentralised exchange, or DEX, and one of the foundations that decentralised finance is built on. It lets people swap one token for another directly from their own wallet, with no company sitting in the middle to take custody of their funds. What makes it different from a traditional exchange is that it does away with the order book entirely.
In its place, Uniswap uses an automated market maker. Instead of matching buyers with sellers, trades happen against shared pools of tokens that other users have deposited. Those depositors, known as liquidity providers, earn a slice of the trading fees in return for supplying the pool. The formula that sets prices adjusts automatically as the balance of each pool shifts, so a swap can always go through as long as there is liquidity to draw on.
The UNI token is Uniswap’s governance token. Holding it gives a say in decisions about how the protocol develops, from fee settings to how its treasury is used. The exchange is deployed across Ethereum and a number of other networks, and it consistently accounts for a large slice of all on-chain trading activity.
Uniswap’s influence on DeFi is hard to overstate, yet the value of the UNI token specifically is a more open question. Much of the debate centres on whether, and how, the fees the protocol generates might one day benefit token holders, a topic that has been argued over for years without a settled answer.
It is also worth remembering that using a DEX carries risks a beginner should understand: smart contracts can contain bugs, it is easy to interact with a fraudulent token by mistake, and the regulatory backdrop keeps shifting.
